You don’t have to tell anyone that you’re a carer, but it can be useful to register as a carer if you are trying to access certain discounts or services.

You can register at the Carers Information Service to receive a Carer's Information Pack and subscribe to our regular newsletter and e-bulletin: Carers Information Service Registration Form.

You can become a member of the Carers Support Centre for free. When you become a member, you will get a membership card which you may be able to use as proof of being a carer: Join as a member.

If you need to show you are receiving Carer’s Allowance, you could use your benefit entitlement letter from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). If the person you support receives a disability benefit, then their benefit entitlement letter may also be accepted.

You might find it helpful to let your GP know that you are a carer. By putting your caring status on record, your GP may be able to offer more flexible services to carers or keep a closer eye on your health. Find out more about our work with GPs.
