Bereavement support at the Carers Support Centre
The death of the person you care for can be a devastating and difficult time. You may experience powerful emotions or feel a sense of numbness, isolation or despair. There is no time limit to your grief and there is no right or wrong way to feel.
We produce a factsheet for former carers which you may find helpful: When the Person You Care For Dies.
We also offer Learning from Loss, a programme of bereavement support groups for carers and former carers struggling to cope with their grief.
Learning from Loss groups
Based on a programme developed by St Christopher’s Hospice, our Learning from Loss groups help bereaved carers and former carers explore their emotions, and discover ways of coping and finding strength.
Groups are open to any current or former carer of a Croydon resident who has experienced a bereavement at least four to six months prior to starting our sessions. A carer looks after a relative, friend or neighbour who needs support due to illness, disability or old age.
Learning from Loss support groups are facilitated by Tanya Ftizgerald, a qualified and British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) registered counsellor.
The groups must be booked in advance. This helps each group remain a safe and confidential space.
Sessions run in seven week blocks on a Friday, 10.30am-12noon at the Carers Support Centre (first floor), 24 George Street, Croydon CR0 1PB. Please note that there is no step-free access to the room. If you have accessibility needs, please let us know.
Get bereavement support
Our bereavement support groups must be booked in advance. The next sessions start in May and September.
When you get in touch, Tanya will arrange a 1-1 appointment with you to talk through your bereavement, the support you need and what we can offer. You can then decide whether Learning from Loss is right for you at this time.
To join a group or for more information, call Tanya on 020 8649 6280 or email email@example.com.
